[PS4 Model Release]
Sony has released a revision of the PlayStation 4. The new model has some changes under the hood and is known as CUH-1100. The heatsink is now a cooling block with aluminum fins that have the same dimensions. The cooling block of the previous model consisted of two parts. The wight of the console has also been reduced by 50 grams.

The motherboard is updated to SAB-001 instead of SAA-001 and the difference seems to mainly concern the power supply. The CUH-1100 has a single phase power supply for the cpu and a three phase power supply for the gpu, while the CUH-1000 has a two phase power supply for the cpu and a four phase power supply for the gpu.

The AMD apu has been given a slightly modified type number from CXD90026G to CXD90026AG, but the chips seem to be identical and the same applies to the Renesas R32C / 118 system controller. The PS4 no longer uses the 4B2G1646E-BCK0 package, but K4B2G1646Q-BCMA. This makes the processor switch from DDR3-1600 to more efficient and faster DDR3L-1833 memory.

It is striking that the 8bit MCU from STMicroelectronics has been removed from the board, most likely because it was already present in the Blu-ray drive. The power supply has been changed from model ADP-240AR to ADP-240CR and that adjustment is accompanied by a decrease of the weight of 24 grams and a slightly different output.

The servers of both PlayStation Network and Xbox Live went offline during Christmas. Presumably as a result of a ddos attack. Most users had difficulties logging in to the network and playing online. According to The Guardian a hacker or group of hackers operating under the name Lizard Squad claimed the responsibility. Later a suspect was arrested in Southport, a town north of Liverpool by the British police and the FBI. Accused equipment was seized (Source 1 / Source 2)
